SIU: Nkandla security must be reassessed
The SIU’s final report on Nkandla says security at Zuma’s KZN home must be reassessed by police.
It says an inspection team that visited Nkandla in July measured what the president's architect Minenhle Makhanya provided against what was required by security assessments.
The team noted a number of concerns, which it's reporting directly to Zuma and not spelling out in the report for security reasons.
The SIU report was tabled in Parliament on Friday.
It is the third probe into the spending scandal.
The report says the president's architect went way beyond his brief, installing elaborate landscaping and features not requested by the police or defence force.
It fingers Makhanya for the R155 million in public funds lost and is now suing him for the money, an action Makhanya is defending.
The report says state officials handed over all responsibility to Makhanya for the project while public works officials who did raise concerns, were removed.
