CAPE TOWN - Journalist Nat Nakasa, who died nearly 50 years ago, is expected to receive a hero's send-off in Durban, at a reburial service, today.

More than 2,000 people are expected to bid him farewell.

Nakasa died in New York in 1965, after leaving South Africa on an exit permit to accept a fellowship at Harvard University.

He was buried in a cemetery in New York but his remains only arrived back home late last month.

Former journalist Joe Golwe says he will never forget Nakasa.

"I am quite happy that we've managed to bring him right back here because he is a symbol of what should never ever happen again in this country."
