JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police are investigating whether a serial killer is behind the latest killing of a child in the province.

Five-year-old Madira Selota's body was dumped and later discovered in an open field near her home in the Tembisa township on Friday last week.

She was found by a passer-by.

The little girl was last seen at a local tuck shop.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Lesetja Mothiba says, "The cluster commander was telling me that they are also looking at whether there might be a serial killer or not, depending on the DNA results."

Selota is the latest child to be murdered, after a series of crimes against children in Gauteng.

A few weeks ago three-year-old Curburne van Wyk's body was found in Reiger Park, Westbury three-year-old Luke Tibbetts was killed by a stray bullet and four-year-old Taegrin Morris was dragged to his death next to his mom's car during a hijacking in Boksburg.

These are but a few children who fell victim to crime over the past few months.

Now residents say they don't only fear for children's lives, but for their own.
