JOHANNESBURG - Three people have died following two shack fires in Johannesburg.

Emergency Services (EMS) say in the first incident two people were burnt beyond recognition in Ivory Park in Tembisa.

While in another a man died due to smoke inhalation in his shack in Orange Farm.

Both incidents happened last night.

EMS's Robert Mulaudzi says it's not yet clear what sparked both fires.

"We also want to encourage people in the most vulnerable areas, informal settlements, to look after their heating and electrical appliances."

Mulaudzi said the cause of fires is still being investigated.
