JOHANNESBURG - The man charged in connection with the shooting of three-year-old Luke Tibbetts is now facing more charges for other crimes.

On Wednesday the High Court in Pretoria charged Lindray Khakhu with 18 counts relating to at least four cases.

Little Luke was sitting on his mother's lap in a car when he was hit by stray bullet last month.

He died in hospital six days later.

Khakhu is now facing 18 counts in four separate criminal cases, which include murder, attempted murder and being in possession of illegal ammunition.

He was charged with firing a shot during an altercation with another person, hitting the three-year-old.

His lawyer S W van Der Merwe says, "The Tibbetts matter actually also came to hand, so what happened is that they have combined all the counts together."

Khakhu abandoned his bail application last week and will remain in custody until his trial on all charges on 2 March 2015.
