CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape High court is expected to receive a report on convicted killer Thandi Maqubela's health after her bizarre appearance in the dock on Wednesday.

She was evaluated by a district surgeon on Wednesday after she appeared confused and disorientated.

Maqubela was found guilty last year of killing her husband, acting Judge Patrick Maqubela in 2009.

Wearing a brown tracksuit and sneakers, Maqubela was uncharacteristically dressed down for her court appearance.

She was asked to confirm whether or not she will be representing herself on sentencing proceedings get underway later this month.

She was told to see the district surgeon after she appeared confused and spoke incoherently during her brief appearance in court.

Maqubela was dumped by her legal team last month because she didn't have enough money to pay them.

When she reluctantly addressed the court, her incoherent ramblings about her dead husband prompted Judge John Murphy to postpone proceedings.

Maqubela kept referring to her husband as if he were still alive.

The judge recommended she be assessed by a doctor before he decides on a way forward.

Judge Murphy then postponed proceedings so that she could be assessed by doctor.

Murphy will receive a report on her condition later this afternoon.
