Igesund appointed new SuperSport coach
SuperSport United have appointed Gordon Igesund as their new coach with immediate effect.
JOHANNESBURG - Gordon Igesund has been appointed as SuperSport United coach with immediate effect.
He replaces Cavin Johnson who was fired on Friday.
Igesund's Bafana Bafana contract had expired on Sunday, and he now takes charge of his 10th PSL team.
During his tenure, the national side recorded 14 wins, nine losses and nine draws.
He still holds the best record for winning the PSL with four different teams.
SuperSports' Koketso Gaofetoge confirmed the appointment.
"Gordon Igesund will be with Matsatsantsa on a two year contract and he will be assisted by his former Bafana assistant coach Serame Letsoaka. They start their job on Thursday."
Igesund told Sports Talk last night it's hard to pinpoint why the team hasn't started the season well.
"I think they have had a bit of bad luck over a period of time. I have watched their games and they have been a little bit unlucky to score goals. But like I said, I'll start with the team and will take it from there and hopefully this will solve the problem that they have."
Igesund said he was happy when presented with the opportunity to coach the club given its pedigree in football.
