Maqubela to appear in court
It will be known today whether convicted murderer Thandi Maqubela has found a new lawyer.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape High Court is expected to know today whether convicted murderer Thandi Maqubela has found a new lawyer.
Maqubela was found guilty last year of killing her husband, acting Judge Patrick Maqubela in 2009.
She was dumped by her legal team last month because she didn't have enough money to pay them.
The National Prosecuting Authority has asked Maqubela to appear as they want to know whether she has decided to represent herself or apply for legal aid.
During her previous appearance in the dock last month, she wanted the court to know she had been wronged by her lawyers.
She claims she was prejudiced by a private law firm that requested R1 million towards her legal fees.
But in the end Judge John Murphy gave her two options, either she could represent herself or apply for legal aid.
Maqubela is also facing having her assets confiscated after prosecutors launched an application with the aim of taking back her share of her murdered husband's estate.
He postponed sentencing proceedings so that she could make up her mind.
