Cold front hits Gauteng
SA weather says Gauteng residents can expect icy temperatures throughout the day.
JOHANNESBURG/CAPE TOWN - The South Weather Service says Gauteng residents can expect icy temperatures throughout the day after a cold front moved over the province last night.
Temperatures plummeted to single digits accompanied by windy conditions which are set to continue over the weekend.
Forecaster Jacqueline Riet says, "People will experience that significant drop in the day time temperatures that will be accompanying with a bit of windy and gusty windy."
Over the last few days a cold front has lashed the country, with snowfall being reported in parts of the Western Cape.
The city's Wilfred Solomons Johannes says some 18,000 people have been in needed disaster of relief services.
"The windy conditions will improve as from Friday and the City of Cape Town will continue with its efforts in terms of alleviating the circumstances to ensure that we pump hot water."
Lavender Hill, Strand, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha have all been severely affected by flooding as a merciless cold font sweeps through the city and surrounds.
Solomons-Johannes says relief has been provided to nearly 8,000 people across the Peninsula.
