JOHANNESBURG - Police are investigating whether a man trampled to death by an elephant was part of an illegal cigarette syndicate.

Rangers found the body of the man on Saturday in the Mapungubwe National Park in Limpopo.

It's believed he was trespassing in the reserve.

South African National Parks (Sanparks) Reynold Thakuli says, "We have been experiencing a number of guys trespassing and others trading in illegal cigarettes passing through the park. So we don't know if this is one of those people who have been passing through the park."
