Man killed outside Bishop Lavis court
It’s understood the 22-year-old was exiting court with his family when he was gunned down.
CAPE TOWN - The police's forensics unit on Monday removed the body of a man who was shot dead outside the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court.
It's understood the 22-year-old was exiting court with his family when he was shot.
Police confirmed two others were also wounded in the incident.
The large crowd of onlookers included many children.
The court gates were opened but there was very little traffic in and out of the building.
Police cordoned off the entrance to a nearby house where a bullet casing was found.
Officials from forensics are still on scene trying to collect evidence.
Relatives of the slain man claim he was followed while en route to attend his friend's court case.
His aunt, who has asked not be named, said her son was with the deceased at the time of the shooting.
She said her son managed to flee the scene.
"My son said he just heard shots and he then ran to the car. They shot at the tyres before they shot him."
This is the latest incident of court violence following the shooting of two police officers at the Pretoria Magistrates Court.
Some experts say security in South Africa's courts is completely lax.
