JOHANNESBURG - A circus worker has been critically wounded after being attacked by a tiger at a circus site in Beyers Naudé Drive in Rietfontein.

It's understood the tiger escaped from its enclosure earlier today while the man was feeding the circus animals.

Paramedics say he suffered severe wounds on his upper body.

The man has been rushed to a nearby hospital.

Netcare 911's Chris Botha says, "When we arrived the man had sustained very critical wounds. Paramedics worked at the scene to try and stabilise him."
