'Liewe Heksie' creator dies

CAPE TOWN - South African writer Verna Vels, best known for creating the beloved children's programme Liewe Heksie, has died.

She was also the voice of Lafinia the main character.

Vels died in her sleep in her Johannesburg home last night after a battle with cancer.

She was also involved in the creation of Afrikaans children's programme Wielie Wielie Walie.

Vels was born in Reitz in the Free State in 1933
