Muthambi sings Motsoeneng's praises
The minister has listed 13 achievements by the SABC COO to explain her reasons for permanently appointing him.
CAPE TOWN - Communications Minister Faith Muthambi says aside from raking in more than R2 billion for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) during his tenure as acting chief operating officer (COO), Hlaudi Motsoeneng has also improved staff morale and improved stability.
The public protector found that Motsoeneng had lied about his matric and had increased his salary on three occasions in the space of one year.
Muthambi's spokesperson has confirmed that the minister permanently appointed Motsoeneng because he made considerable improvements to the SABC while acting in the role.
These positive contributions include him overseeing the launch of a 24-hour news channel and saving the company billions in interest by paying off a government loan.
This has emerged in the midst of a legal battle launched by the Democratic Alliance in an effort to have his permanent appointment set aside.
The Western Cape High Court will rule on the matter in three weeks.
