N2 security overlooked due to 'stretched resources'
Western Cape Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer says officers have to be deployed where the need is greatest.
CAPE TOWN - Stretched resources means that only two police vehicles can patrol the N2, Western Cape Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer said on Tuesday.
In recent months, criminals have been placing debris on the highway in an attempt to force motorists to stop. The criminals then rob motorists of their valuables.
Lamoer says officers have to be deployed where the need is greatest.
"We are sitting with protest action in this province, almost seven to eight per day, and our resources must be diverted to that. We are also sitting with gang violence and serious crimes in the province so we have various other hotspots that we have to divert our resources to."
