Guptagate fall guy scores top post
Jacob Zuma's 'scapegoat', Bruce Koloane, confirmed that he will be SA's next ambassador to Netherlands.
PRETORIA - The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) has declined to confirm or deny reports that the Guptagate 'fall-guy' has been offered an ambassadorial post in the Netherlands.
Former head of state protocol Bruce Koloane, who was found guilty of facilitating the controversial landing of the Gupta's private plane at the Waterkloof Air Force Base, confirmed the post to the _Sunday Independent _at the weekend.
He was demoted to liaison officer in the department, but now appears to be reaping the rewards for deflecting blame from President Jacob Zuma.
The department's Clayson Monyela declined to comment on Koloane's new post, citing protocol that prohibits divulging the details of a nominated ambassador until they present their credentials to their receiving country.
Merely citing such protocol suggests something is in the offering for the official who was found guilty of severe dereliction of duty.
Koloane was also found guilty of exerting undue influence on some state officials, to secure the landing of a private plane hired by the president's friends, the Guptas.
Now it appears the official at the centre of that debacle will soon represent South Africa at the Hague.
