Gautrain strike averted
Gautrain management reached a wage agreement with staff at the eleventh hour.
JOHANNESBURG - Gautrain management says it's relieved that it was able to reach a wage agreement with staff at the eleventh hour and a strike, which was due to start today, was averted.
Transport union UTATU SARWHU issued a strike notice on Friday following a labour dispute.
This has now been cancelled after the two parties agreed to an 8.5 percent salary hike for train drivers and station staff.
Gautrain's Errol Braithwaite says, "I am very positive about that not only for the Gautrain but for us as a country. I think it does indicate that there is space for agreements to be made in good faith."
