CAPE TOWN - Fifteen people have been injured after an explosion on a train near Wellington.

It's understood electrical wires caught alight and caused an explosion in a motor coach on Sunday.

The rail operator's Riana Scott says one of the electrical cables was faulty.

"The electrical component of the motor coach was faulty and that caught fire. So we have had 15 people being taken to health facility for checkups."
