Mitchells Plain drug rehab program a success

CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Social Development Department says it's reached great success with a drug and alcohol abuse treatment program in Mitchells Plain.

The opiate substitution treatment program has been running for about eight months in the area.

The department has noted a rising trend in opiate based drugs like heroine.

Social Development MEC Albert Fritz says the program has helped many people in the last eight months.

"The first cycle of the program has had a 76 percent success rate. Most of the people on the program tested negative for any form of drug use after starting the program."
