CAPE TOWN - Springbok captain Jean de Villiers says he's fully fit and ready to face Argentina tomorrow.

The Springboks are due to take on the South Americans in their opening fixture of the Rugby Championship at Loftus tomorrow.

De Villiers has struggled with injuries over past few years and hasn't played since May after he suffered a knee injury and had to undergo surgery.

But he says he's over that and raring to go.

"I am happy with where I am at from a from a fitness point of view and you know like I said, from the day that I had the op there was a plan set out as to how we will go about it (recovery) and luckily it all went well. Now it's just about performing on Saturday."

He however added he's anxious about making his return.

"I am always quite nervous for games - it doesn't matter if it's Currie Cup, Super Rugby or international games. After being out for quite a long time now, you sort of get that feeling again and the nerves stack up a bit but I'm very excited about it."

De Villers says his performance is going to require a massive effort.

"For me, tomorrow is like starting all over again. I need to really put a bit of extra time into my preparation for tomorrow's game. I need to think a little bit more than I usually do."

He also says he's excited to prove he's back to his best again.

"The fact that I haven't played for so long gives me new energy, as well as having to prove myself again and show that I am still good enough. But that's exciting. I am just as young as the guy on my inside and outside tomorrow. We all have a lot to prove and a lot to learn still."
