Rogue spy unit report to be made public
David Mahlobo has asked Faith Radebe to probe claims of a rogue unit within the State Security Ministry.
JOHANNESBURG - The State Security Ministry says it will make public the final report of an investigation into a rogue spy unit by the Inspector General of Intelligence Advocate Faith Doreen Radebe.
Last night, State Security Minister David Mahlobo announced he was asking Radebe to probe newspaper claims that there was a rogue unit within the state security agency supporting former police crime intelligence head Richard Mdluli and pursuing its own agenda.
It was also claimed the unit had tried to weaken the South African Revenue Service.
The ministry's Brian Dube says Radebe will give her report to Mahlobo.
"It is incumbent upon the minister to come to the public and indicate what the findings have been and what actions he intends taking."
Mahlobo said earlier this week he will take strong action if any of his staff break the law.
