JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police say a picture of a suspect circulated among the Reiger Park community helped authorities to arrest a man for the kidnapping and murder of three-year-old Cuburne van Wyk.

The man was arrested in Germiston on Wednesday.

Van Wyk was abducted outside his parents' home last week while playing with his siblings.

His partially burnt body was discovered on a mine dump three days after he was reported missing.

Police say the man arrested is the same person identified by the community after the three-year-old disappeared.

The police's Noxolo Kweza says the community helped authorities to track down the suspect.

"With the help of the Metro Police and the community the suspect was arrested. At this stage we can't say whether we're looking for more suspects - that would depend on our investigation, which continues."

Residents said they saw little Cuburne leave with the man, who is well-known to the community, after he apparently offered him and his siblings biscuits.

The man is expected to appear in court soon.
