Lira makes VH1’s top 40

CAPE TOWN - Multi-award winning songstress Lira, is making history with her hit, Feel Good.

The afro-pop diva is the first South African musician to have a song on the prestigious VH1's Top 40 Chart.

The smash hit off her album Rise Again, was featured among songs by internationally acclaimed artists like Maria Carey, Beyoncé and Ciara.

Lerato Molapo, known to her fans as Lira, has wowed American crowds since she went on tour there from 18 June until 5 July.

She told reporters the opportunity to play her music abroad came about after a record label boss, Randall Grass of Shanachie Entertainment, was impressed with her set during one of President Barack Obama's inauguration balls.

The promising vocalist was born in Daveyton in Johannesburg on the East Rand.

Lira which means 'love' when translated in Sesotho refers to her music as a 'fusion of soul and funk with elements of jazz and African.'
