Gugulethu child murder: Family implicated
Chelsea Godlo’s body was found hidden in a sack under a bed earlier this week.
CAPE TOWN - A teacher of a murdered 10-year-old Gugulethu girl says she was a diligent child who was always eager to learn.
Chelsea Godlo's body was found hidden under a bed in her grandfather's house earlier this week.
Family friend Matilda Mabena says community members joined in the frantic search for the girl.
Their worst fears were realised when Godlo's body was found under a bed in her grandfather's home.
A man, not her grandfather, was taken in for questioning.
Her teacher has described the grade 5 learner as a pleasure to teach and eager to learn.
"She was a hard worker in her class. She liked to attend to the questions. Ask her to do anything, she wouldn't hesitate."
She was reported missing on Monday.
The girl's mother, Noreen, began crying uncontrollably as she described how she discovered her daughter's lifeless body in a sack under a bed at her father's home.
"She was in a big sack. I undid the knots and removed the bag from her head and saw it was my daughter. I screamed and said that this was my baby."
Godlo said she still can't believe family members have been implicated in her daughter's murder.
Meanwhile, police have arrested three men in connection with her murder.
Family members have told Eyewitness News the suspects are relatives of the victim and that her grandfather is not a suspect.
