Father sentenced to 28 years for killing son
A father who buried his 18-month-old alive will spend the next 28 years behind bars.
CAPE TOWN - A father who buried his 18-month-old son alive will spend the next 28 years behind bars.
Zolani Malanga (31) was sentenced in the Western Cape High Court.
The prosecution argued he had killed his son, Zondre Parks, "in a cruel and gruesome manner".
In a plea bargain document, Malanga admitted to fetching his son from the mother's home in January in order to kill him.
Back in his own shack, he tried to suffocate the boy.
Malanga explained that he had dug a hole inside his shack and placed his son in the hole while he was still alive.
He said he then covered the hole and placed a mat and his bed on top of the hole to conceal it.
Judge John Hlophe warned Malanga he could not appeal his plea-bargain sentence.
