JOHANNESBURG - Orlando Pirates have lost their opening Premier Soccer League game of the season after suffering a 2-1 loss to Moroka Swallows at Orlando Stadium last night.

After warning his side in previous matches of their inability to score goals, Pirates coach Vladimir Vermezovic (VV) was proved right after his team were beaten.

"The law of football is if you miss the chances you lose the game."

Goals from Lantshane Phalane and Lerato Chabangusaw the Dube Birds to a victory.

The Buccaneers' only goal came from Oupa Manyisa who converted from the penalty spot in the first half.

Swallows coach Zeca Marques believed that his team played the game in the exact manner he had sent them out too.

"We came with a mission to leave Orlando Stadium with a point and we got it. From a tactical point of view the team was spot on and the discipline was there."

While VV did not want to get carried away with the loss, he is aware that his side must be careful about being too relaxed in their performances.

"We have 29 games ahead and they must be smarter when they play. They are good players and they know where they made mistakes."


In other league news, Platinum Stars were beaten 2-0 by Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Goals from Andile Mbenyane and David Zulu ensured the win for Chippa.

A second-half penalty from Sthembiso Ngcobo secured a 1-0 win for Bidvest Wits over SuperSport United on Saturday evening.

Also last night, George Lebese scored the winner as Kaizer Chiefs beat Free State Stars 1-0 win

Puleng Tlolane's first-half strike handed Polokwane City a hard-fought 1-0 win over the University of Pretoria in their season opener in Pretoria.
