Makhura leads Women's Day march

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Premier David Makhura is leading a Women's Day march to the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
On 9 August in 1956, more than 50,000 women staged a march on the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the proposed amendments to the against the pass laws and Urban Areas Act.
Makhura is accompanied by hundreds of people with a formal ceremony expected to be held at the union buildings later today.
Celebratory songs can be heard resonating through the streets of Pretoria as Makhura leads a march to the Union Buildings.
A huge stand was erected and officials said thousands of people are expected to attend today's proceedings.
The Gauteng premier was seen waving his flag as he marched with the ANC Women's League leaders.
He's expected to deliver a keynote address later.
