Sisulu spent R278,000 on chartered flights
The number was revealed in a Parliamentary reply to questions around how much Sisulu spent on flights.
CAPE TOWN - It's emerged minister Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu's has spent over R278,000 of taxpayers' money on two chartered flights to Mthatha
The number was revealed in a Parliamentary reply to questions around how much Sisulu spent on flights while at the helm of the Ministry for Public Service and Administration.
Sisulu flew to Mthatha on two occasions in June and July last year on board a private jet.
Her spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mabaya wouldn't explain exactly what she was doing in the Eastern Cape, but confirmed that on 25 June she didn't travel alone.
"There was a task given to the minister which involved a number of other people. The easiest way to travel and also meet all the tasks that were given in the Eastern Cape was to travel on a chartered flight."
That trip alone cost in excess of R132,000.
The Democratic Alliance's Joe McGluwa has questioned why Sisulu didn't fly on South African Airways which offers daily flights between Johannesburg and Mthatha.
