JOHANNESBURG - The Student Representative Council (SRC) at the Medical University of Southern Africa (Medunsa) says protesting students are being provoked and that's what sparked violence on the campus.

Protesting Medunsa students again barred lecturers from leaving the Garankuwa campus.

They've been protesting for several weeks over a long list of grievances including the plan to change the campus' name to Sefako Makgatho-University.

Last week protesters burned two vehicles at the campus.

SRC president Malusi Marakalala says, "Are you saying that students who are studying here in the medical profession don't have emotions? We are singing peacefully, but if they come in to provoke students who are singing peacefully, that's where I have a problem."
