SACCI approves Matric recommendations
SACCI has welcomed a ministerial task team’s amended recommendations for the National Senior Certificate.
JOHANNESBURG - The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) has welcomed a ministerial task team's recommendation on the current matric pass mark.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga asked a team of experts to examine criticism against the National Senior Certificate pass requirements.
The team has suggested that the department consider making maths a compulsory subject and increase the pass mark, which is currently at 30 percent.
SACCI's Pietman Roos says the department should implement these recommendations promptly.
"This will definitely help to improve the quality of the system. South Africa's education needs urgent rethink, as there's often broad complaints that the quality of schools are ill equipped to enter the labour market."
