CAPE TOWN - Concerns have been raised about reports that criminals are posing as police officers in Mitchell's Plain.

The Mitchell's Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) says a number of incidents have been reported on social media but they haven't been confirmed by the South African Police Service.

CPF Chairperson Abe Isaacs says they'll try get more clarity from police during a meeting tonight.

"We are pleading to our community to be vigilant on these issues. We are also asking the community to verify information."

In one confirmed incident, a Lentegeur resident was shot in the stomach when several men stormed his home purporting to be police officers.
