CAPE TOWN - The South African Police Service and Interpol have arrested one of the UK's most wanted fugitives, convicted drug trafficker and fraudster, Martin Evans.

The 52-year-old from Swansea was arrested in Midrand on Saturday following a tipoff.

Police say he had been on the run since 2011 after his release from prison on a five-day licence.

Evans was meant to serve 21 years at the time for conspiracy to supply cocaine and fraudulent trading.

National police spokesperson Solomon Makgale says Evans will appear in the Pretoria court this morning for a procedural extradition hearing.

"We've managed to trace and made sure that the suspect is apprehended. We have established that he had been in the country and he was trying very hard to remain under radar by using a false identification."
