JOHANNESBURG - The management of the Meyersdal Eco Estate which sold two giraffe says it had no reason to doubt the company responsible for relocating the animals to its new home in Pretoria.

A giraffe died en route to Kameeldrift when the animal hit its head on the Garsfontein Bridge on the N1 in Pretoria east on Thursday.

The news has been met with widespread outrage.

Lawyer for the Meyersdale Eco Estate Jurgens Bekker says they had nothing to do with the relocation of the animals.

"Meyersdal Eco Estate was brought under the impression by the game capture company who handled the purchase and the capture and ultimately the transport of the animals in question, that professional service would be rendered. Unfortunately that has now proven to be not the case."
