ANC: Metrorail is being ‘sabotaged’

Thousands of commuters in Mitchells Plain, Nyanga, Khayelitsha and Philippi were affected this week.

Commuters have had to make use of alternative means of transport.

CAPE TOWN - The ANC in the Western Cape believes recent vandalism of Metrorail property is an act of sabotage against the rail agency.

Thousands of commuters in Mitchells Plain, Nyanga, Khayelitsha and Philippi were affected this week after vandals destroyed more than a dozen signal cables.

Commuters have had to make use of alternative means of transport.

Metrorail has announced normal services will resume on Monday.

The ANC's Cameron Dugmore says, "There's something very sinister going on here. This has not happened on this scale at Metrorail before and we think it's clear that it's not just vandalism. Its targeted and focused sabotage and it's critical that we, with the police find out exactly what the motivation behind it is."
