JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Education says arrangements have now been made for primary school pupils locked out of their school north of Pretoria to attend classes at a different location.

Pupils at the Tomariie Primary Farm School have not returned to their classes since the beginning of the new term because the department has not paid the school's rent.

The department claims the owner has refused to allow classes to resume until he is paid R8,000 in outstanding rental fees.

It's understood the payment has not been made because the owner's tax clearance certificate expired four months ago.

Department spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane says, "We subsequently made arrangements to accommodate the learners at a nearby school and we've also made arrangements for scholar transport and school nutrition."
