JOHANNESBURG - Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa has raised concern about power outages in Pretoria, saying the theft of electricity cables has continued unabated over the past few weeks.

Several areas across the city have reported sporadic power outages and the city says most of these can be attributed to cable theft.

Ramokgopa says they held a council meeting on Thursday to discuss the extent of the problem.

He says it lies with the complexity of the electricity connections.

"We expressed our condemnation of the ongoing, almost unabated, theft of cables. The great difficulty is the network of electricity connection in the city is over 10,000. It's almost impossible to protect every inch of that."
