Sanral chairperson resigns
Tembakazi Mnyaka has resigned with immediate effect citing personal reasons for her decision.
JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Transport says the chairwoman of the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) Tembakazi Mnyaka has resigned with immediate effect.
Mnyaka has cited personal reasons for her decision.
Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has accepted Mnyaka's resignation and wished her well.
Sanral has declined to comment on the development, but the transport department's Tiyani Rikhotso says the minister will start the process of finding another chairperson immediately.
"The responsibility of filling the position chairperson of the board is that of the minister of transport and she will commence with the processes of ensuring that the position is filled within a reasonable space of time."
Rikhotso says the functioning of Sanral's board of directors won't be affected while the appointment is underway.
"They will be able to continue to play the role that they were playing collectively together with her. We do not see any situation where the functioning of the board of Sanral will be affected."
