Two Rhodes University students drown
It’s understood the students drowned when their canoe capsized in windy weather.
GRAHAMSTOWN - The Rhodes University community is mourning the deaths of two students who drowned at the weekend.
The two were reported missing on Saturday morning after their canoe capsized in windy weather.
Their bodies were found in a dam in Grahamstown the following day.
The university community is battling to come to terms with another tragic incident following the drowning of two students in Settlers Dam in Grahamstown.
A third canoe passenger managed to swim to shore to report his friends missing.
The South African Police Service rescue team, including divers and sniffer dogs, searched the area for almost two days before making the grim discovery on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities are waiting until both families have been informed before releasing the students' names.
