Police probe deadly Woodstock fire
A 12-year-old boy died when a fire broke out in the apartment building at the weekend.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police are investigating the cause of a fire that claimed a child's life in Woodstock.
The fire broke out on Sunday night at the Harbour View flats.
The building manager says he was unaware the boy was home when the blaze broke out. Police say the child's mother was at work at the time.
A blackened door marks the entrance to flat A 116, the place where fire fighters found the body of the boy.
A resident who lives on the same floor says he is deeply saddened by the tragedy.
"If [the fire] spreads, it spreads very quickly and as soon as the window burst it actually jumped even higher. This place could have gone down very quickly."
Police and emergency officials will try to determine the exact cause of the fire.
