Drowned Rhodes students identified
Rizwan Bhayat and Mohammed Amin Mussa were found dead on Sunday afternoon.
CAPE TOWN - The bodies of two Rhodes University students who drowned at the weekend have been identified by police.
Rizwan Bhayat and Mohammed Amin Mussa were found dead on Sunday afternoon after they were reported missing the day before.
The pair died after their canoe capsized in windy conditions.
The two third-year students hired a canoe with another student for fun on Settlers Dam when the incident occurred.
The third student managed to swim to shore after the canoe capsized and called for help.
The bodies were found in the dam after South African Police Services rescue teams and divers searched the area for almost two days.
The students were buried on Sunday night in a private ceremony.
This is the second fatal incident to hit Rhodes University this year.
In May, a student was killed in an apparent murder suicide.
