'Shakes Mashaba a new era for Bafana'
The new coach for the South African national football team, Shakes Mashaba, was announced today.
JOHANNESBURG - The South African Football Association (Safa) President Danny Jordaan says the appointment of Shakes Mashaba is the beginning of a new era in South African football.
Mashaba was unveiled today as the new head coach of the national team, and will take over the reins as soon as his junior responsibilities are completed.
Jordaan says Mashaba's appointment is the first step in rebuilding the national team.
"It's a long term project. It's not immediate short term gains we are looking for, it will be a rebuilding process."
His first task will be an African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier on 5 September on the way to Sudan.
