Commonwealth Games: No gold for SA yet

With five bronze and two silvers so far, Team SA is 11th on the medals table with no gold yet.

JOHANNESBURG - Team South Africa starred in the pool at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Friday night.

In the 50 metre Butterfly race, Chad le Clos took bronze with a time of 23.36 seconds while Roland Schoeman grabbed silver, stopping the clock at 23.13 seconds.

The pair were in the pool once again for the 4 X 100 metre Freestyle final, along with Leith Shankland and Caydon Muller, finishing in second place behind Australia. England took the bronze.

S├ębastien Rousseau won bronze in the 400 metre Individual Medley, while Cameron van der Burgh finished second in his 100 metre Breaststroke semi-final, booking his spot in the final.

Meanwhile, South Africa defeated New Zealand 23-5 in the mixed pairs Lawn Bowls semi-final.

The South African women's hockey team scored twice in their second half, to pick up a 2-0 victory over Canada in Group A.

South Africa is currently placed eleventh on the medals table, with five bronze, two silver and no gold medals just yet.

Today, in Sevens action, the Blitzbokke take on Kenya.

South Africa takes on Jamaica in the Badminton mixed teams group.

Zack Piontek and Ruan Snyman are both in action on the Judo mat and South Africa's triples and pairs are both in Lawn Bowls action, as well as Colleen Piketh in the women s singles.

The South African Netball side play against Barbados and Morne Van Niekerk, Kellan Gouveris and Oupa Maluleke are participating in the mens 40 kilometre cycling qualifiers.

Nolan Hoffman is taking on the 4,000 metre individual pursuit.
