CAPE TOWN - Capetonians are bracing themselves for a cold and wet weekend ahead.

The Cape Town weather office says a cold front has moved over the Western Cape, bringing along heavy rains and strong winds.

The conditions will continue into the weekend.

Disaster risk management officials are on high alert to assist people, especially in low lying areas, who are affected by localised flooding.

Forecaster Henning Grobler says the cold air will bring on showers and rain.

"The weekend looks like a cold and rainy one with showers on and off only dissipating on Sunday afternoon."
