ACSA will consult community on CT plans
ACSA’s expansion project will have direct impact on surrounding communities in Cape Town.
CAPE TOWN - Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) says once it's identified which communities will be affected by a proposed expansion project at Cape Town International, the next phase will be to consider ways to mitigate the impact.
ACSA wants to realign the runway to make room for larger aircraft and more passengers.
But an environmental assessment says the increase in noise and air pollution would affect surrounding communities.
ACSA says the scoping report is part of the first phase of the project and going forward it will look at ways to mitigate the impact of the expansion.
ACSA's Adele Klingenberg says. "We've been working very closely with the city to look at affected informal settlements and we're looking at possible relocation of alternatives for the communities that are affected."
