Sebolai pleads not guilty to murder
The former Jozi FM DJ is applying for bail in the Protea Magistrates Court.
JOHANNESBURG - Former Jozi FM DJ Donald Sebolai has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his girlfriend Dolly Tshabalala in the Protea Magistrates Court.
Sebolai, popularly known as DJ Donald Duck, is applying for bail in the Soweto court.
He was arrested on 8 July in Dube after being on the run for over a week.
He faces a charge of premeditated murder.
Police have claimed that Sebolai confessed to killing Tshabalala in a phone call to her friend last month.
Tshabalala's family and friends as well as community members have filled the courtroom to capacity with some calling for the magistrate to deny Sebolai bail.
One woman says he should stay behind bars.
"He's a murderer. He deserves to rot in jail."
Sebolai presented a popular weekday mid-morning chat show which focused on women empowerment and was seen as a champion for women's rights in the community
Tshabalala's family says they are still traumatised by the brutal nature of her death.
Eyewitness News last week revealed the brutal manner in which the 32-year old mother of one was murdered.
A post-mortem confirmed she had died after being stabbed with force in her genitals.
The post-mortem results are expected to be revealed in court as the case progresses.
