Thousands vent anti-Israel anger in CT
Pro-Palestine demonstrators took to the streets to march against Israeli military operations in Gaza.
CAPE TOWN - The International Relations and Cooperation Portfolio Committee chairperson on Wednesday received a memorandum by pro-Palestinian demonstrators in Cape Town.
Protesters were venting their anger against Israeli military operations in Gaza.
Thousands of demonstrators walked to Parliament in a march led by the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC).
Israel launched a military operation against Hamas earlier this month in retaliation to the murders of three teenage boys.
The military operation left more than 200 people dead.
Hamas denied it had anything to do with the deaths.
The MJC's Abdul-Khaliq Ebrahim says the time has come for the South African government to commit itself in supporting the plight of Palestinians.
"The boycott, divestment and sanctions that have been undertaken as an international movement must be further strengthened and supported."
Ebrahim says they also demand that Israeli products be boycotted and the country's ambassador in South Africa be recalled.
