JOHANNESBURG - The Protea Magistrates Court on Wednesday heard former Jozi FM DJ Donald Sebolai had a fight with his girlfriend on the morning she was found murdered in Soweto.

Popularly known as DJ Donald Duck, Sebolai is facing charges of murder.

He allegedly confessed to killing Dolly Tshabalala but pleaded not guilty to the crime.

Sebolai said he had an argument with his girlfriend and she wanted to stab him.

He claimed he tried to block the knife with his hands and while he was tried to disarm her, she got stabbed.

The court was filled to capacity with community members, including Tshabalala's family.

The state is opposing bail, saying the accused is a flight risk after being on the run for eight days.

Defence lawyers argued Sebolai was trying to hand himself over to police when he was arrested.

The DJ presented a popular weekday mid-morning chat show, which focused on women empowerment, and was seen as a champion for the rights of women in the community.

Eyewitness News last week revealed the brutal manner in which the 32-year-old mother was killed.

A post-mortem report confirmed she died after being stabbed with force in her genitals.

The post-mortem results are expected to be revealed in court as the case progresses.
