CAPE TOWN - A five-year-old-girl is in a stable condition after being wounded in an apparent gang-related shooting near Delft.

The little girl was shot in Wesbank on Monday.

Paramedics say they found the girl lying in a small pool of blood after being shot in the back.

Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital spokesperson Angelique Jordaan said the child underwent emergency surgery and was in a stable condition.

Last week, a one-year-old girl was discharged from hospital after she was wounded in gang crossfire in the same area.

She was admitted to the same facility following the drive-by shooting.

The toddler was in her mother's arms while walking to a nearby shop when the incident occurred.
