CAPE TOWN - There has been a rise in attempted robberies and robberies around Cape Town International Airport, Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) said on Monday.

Last week, a pilot narrowly escaped being robbed by a group of men on the N2 highway near the approach to the airport.

Earlier this month, an airport employee was attacked and robbed on the same road.

Acsa spokesperson Deidre Hendricks warned motorists to be vigilant.

"We are aware of incidents of attempted ambushing on the highway. Our response has been to engage the relevant security agencies, especially the police, to look at what can be done to mitigate this."
