CAPE TOWN - Former South African tennis ace Bob Hewitt is facing new allegations of alleged rape.

The doubles grand slam winner is already set to stand trial for allegedly raping girls several decades ago.

In the latest case in the United States (US), he's accused of raping a girl almost 40 years ago.

The now 74-year-old Hewitt is being sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages in a civil case in the US.

A teacher in the US also claims to have been sexually assaulted by Hewitt in the 1970's when he recruited her as a 14-year-old tennis prodigy.

Heather Crowe Connor, now in her fifties, claims he raped her several times over a four year period.

Hewitt who appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates Court last month, is set to go on trial early next year for the alleged rape of three girls he coached in the 1980's and 90's.
